Professor Rashid Bashir received the 2001 Technology Translation Award at the Second Annual BioMEMS and Biomedical Nanotechnology Conference held in Columbus, Ohio, in September 2001. Bashir was recognized for his far-reaching contributions to the field. At the same conference, graduate student Haibo Li received recognition as presenting one of the four best student posters.

Professor Bashir has a special interest in the application of semiconductor fabrication to biomedical engineering and has performed extensive research on micro- scale biosensors and systems and microelectro-mechanical systems.
