[previous article] [next article]Nothing causes more consternation to you, as a system user, than to have the system "go down" when you have a deadline and your information is in the computer.
Here at Purdue, the faculty and students place unprecedented demands on the system and push it to the limits of its capabilities. With such pressure on our computer systems, keeping them "up" requires constant care and attention. In order to assure that the system works efficiently with a minimum of "crashes", the ECN Digital Service Maintenance (DSM) staff has devised a "fix it before it breaks" preventive maintenance schedule.
Unfortunately, no one can predict emergency downtime, but you can reduce personal interruption to your work by reading the announcement of upcoming downtimes in the motd (message-of-the- day). Also, to aid in your long-term planning of ECN facility usage, the following listing of scheduled preventive maintenance is being provided.
