The ECN No Name Newsletter is no longer being published. This is an archived issue.
[previous article] [next article]Four new newsgroups have been created for the campus-wide discussion of the various windowing systems supported on the Sun and other workstations. These newsgroups are local to the Purdue campus.
The top-level newsgroup, purdue.windows, is for general discussions of windowing systems which do not fit into one of the subgroups. Announcements of general interest are also placed here.
The purdue.windows.sun group is used for the discussion of the suntools window system and other items related to the Sun workstation. In addition to providing a local forum, this newsgroup receives the SUN-SPOTS Digest, which is mailed out periodically from Rice University. Note that material posted in this group is not sent to SUN-SPOTS.
The purdue.windows.x newsgroup is used for the discussion of the X window system. In addition, the material sent to the Xpert mailing list (xpert@athena.mit.edu) is received by this group. Note that this is one-directional; material posted to this group is not sent to the Xpert list.
The purdue.windows.news newsgroup is used for the discussion of Sun's newest windowing system NeWS.
News is available on most ECN machines (not on the Suns though). If it is not available on your machine, contact your site specialist.
