[previous article] [next article]Release 1.6.0 of SMP, the Symbolic Manipulation Program from Inference Corporation, has been installed on all licensed Vax machines. SMP is a symbolic manipulation program much in the same vein as vaxima. For new users vaxima is probably the preferred program since it is more robust, and has better documentation. However, SMP and vaxima do not provide exactly the same functionality, and you may need to use SMP.
The new version of SMP, Version 1.6.0, provides the following changes over Version 1.5.0: a much larger class of polynomials can be factored, sparse polynomials may now be used in computations, many bugs have been fixed. Several library routines have also been updated; users should contact their site specialist for a copy of the revised documentation.
Presently, the only machines licensed for SMP are ea, ec, ee, ef, el, ma, and pb. The cost to license a new machine is $1,100 per machine. It may also be licensed for Sun workstations. If you wish to license SMP for a new machine, contact your site specialist.
