GREMLIN:A Graphics Editor for the Sun Workstations

Edward J. Nieters

Gremlin is an interactive graphics editor available on the Sun Workstations under suntools. It was created by various grad students at Berkeley and is now available here at Purdue. Some of the functions within gremlin are not yet implemented at our site even though they will appear on the screen as you run the gremlin editor. These are as follows:

To incorporate gremlin graphics into your documents, first produce the picture file using the gremlin editor. Then, in your troff document, put the following lines

    .GS
   file gremlin_output_file_name
   [options]
    .GE

(NOTE that the gremlin output file itself is not included in the troff file. Only its name is.) The final step is to use the grn preprocessor.

grn -Txxx troff_file | troff -Txxx

NOTE that the -T device flag that is given to troff must also be explicitly given to grn. For more information on this new tool, see your site specialist and ask to review ECN #90 A GREMLIN Tutorial for the Sun Workstation or borrow a copy of the manual from Potter Library.
