The Great Computer Move

Bill Simmons

As you know, the new Materials and Electrical Engineering (MSEE) building will be opening soon. The new MSEE building includes a large EE computer machine room and many of the EE computers will be moving to this new room. Curt Freeland, Manager of Systems Engineering at ECN, is attempting to keep user disruption to a minimum throughout this major machine relocation.

Preliminary scheduling for moving machines has been completed, and the information is provided on the back page of this newsletter. In most cases a machine will be down for 2 days when it is moved; serial port connections *** WILL *** take longer.

Even though a great amount of planning has gone into scheduling the order and timing of machine moves, any number of events (shipping delays, breakage, missing wiring, etc.) can cause alterations to this schedule. To provide users with the most up-to-date information, updates on the moving schedule will be kept online in help ecnnews.
