[previous article] [next article]If you use a Sun client, you may have noticed your monitor go blank after a prolonged period of inactivity. What!!? Huh ??! Even though you were not running a X or suntools screensaver, your monitor still blanked out, magically!?
This turning-off of all active video pixels or "blanking" is due to the installation of screenblank on all Sun3 clientele. This program was developed to extend the life of the monitor by reducing the phosphor burn to the screen elements. Screenblank is currently set to blank any monitor after a half hour of inactivity. It will not interfere with X or Suntools (or their respective screensavers). When screenblank blanks your monitor, depressing any key or moving the mouse should instantly bring your monitor back to life.
