Sharing Macintosh Information

J. Michael "user friendly" Moya

This past semester I have begun putting together a "master" list of all the *known* (known to me) Macintosh users. Through this network of users, I am trying to open a better line of communication between users and myself to enhance the engineering Macintosh facilities.

Recently I started mailing to this "master" list whenever I put something on the "ECN Public" file server or had other information of general interest. This could be public domain software, network information, or anything similar. For example, I post anything zone specific...like Aufs servers or LaserWriters being down (if known in advance) and updates of system software.

If you would like to be added to this list, send me E-mail saying so (login: moyman). I would also encourage Mac users to send me E-mail with comments, suggestions, or information on anything related to using the Macs on the ECN.

                  Macintosh Vaccines Available
            J. Michael "preventive maintenance" Moya

There are several public domain vaccines now available for anybody to copy. You can get them on the "ECN Public" file server located in the "Twilight" zone (next article) on a Mac near you! They are in the folder called Vaccines (imagine that).

A vaccine is an application that will do one, two, or all three of the following:

Obviously, you must have a hard disk for any of the above to be of much help. Although you can have an infected floppy, it is much less likely. It would be a *very* good idea to have some of the third item (prevention) around. To inject your hard disk with vaccine, drag the icon "vaccine" that looks like a syringe over to your system folder.

To get a general picture of what is available, look at the README file within the Vaccines folder. Remember, don't use pirated software on a hard disk; you could be spreading a virus.
