SUN Offers Software Discounts
SUN Offers Software Discounts
Bill Simmons
Sun Microsystems is offering substantial discounts to
universities on selected software until June 30, 1989. Review
the listing below and determine if one or more of the application
packages is something you need. A price listing and ordering
information can be found on the previous page.
SunTrac
is a fast, easy-to-use planning and scheduling package. Its
window-based project management system combines traditional
Gantt, PERT and critical path techniques with a unique dynamic
risk-assessment and schedule optimization method. Designed
for use in a distributed project environment, SunTrac's
graphic display and presentation-quality output communicate
details instantly. With mouse-driven, graphical interface,
SunTrac permits quick, easy, accurate incorporation of ongoing
project changes, providing a "living" management plan for even
the most dynamic projects.
SunWrite/Print/Draw
is a WYSIWYG word processing and page layout program that
creates and integrates text and graphics.
SunWrite includes style sheets, a spelling checker, a search
and replace feature, text and graphics frames, multiple
columns and more.
SunPaint is a pixel-based graphics editor that helps you
create artwork and edit scanned images. It moves, rotates,
copies, inverts and flips regions; plus offering more than 40
fill patterns and 25 brush shapes.
SunDraw is an object-oriented graphics editor for creating
charts and precision graphics. With SunDraw you can create
curves, polygons, lines, circles, arcs and much more. SunDraw
uses SunWrite fonts which can be modified for special effects.
Artisan
is a family of painting and illustration programs.
Available in 24-bit, 8-bit grayscale, and 1-bit monochrome
versions, Pop-up menus and multiple overlapping windows
make Artisan a powerful yet easy-to-use program. Paint
features include Airbrush, Blending Brush and Geometric
Objects. Artisan also provides user-customizable palettes,
color matching and transparency functions. Input from Sun
raster files and Perfect Byte scanners is supported, with
output to color film recorders, color printers and
PostScript devices.
Equation Editor
is a WYSIWYG tool for writing and publishing high quality
equations and mathematical expressions. A standalone
utility, it can be used to produce arbitrarily complex,
multilevel equations. Because output is produced in
standard forms (such as PostScript and TEX), equations can
be imported into documents using a variety of publishing
systems.
FrameMaker
is computer publishing software designed for users in a
broad variety of professional disciplines. Powerful,
cost-effective and easy to use, FrameMaker provides full-
featured authoring and document layout tools--including
capabilities for creating, manipulating and importing
graphics. Users can create a wide range of documents, from
long, complex technical manuals to newsletters and
viewgraphs.
Publisher
is a professional publishing tool designed to meet the
needs of both the casual user and the professional
publisher. The Publisher provides the ease of use
associated with conventional WYSIWYG systems, but adds the
high quality features ordinarily available only in high-end
systems: integrated text, graphics, tables, and
mathematical equations.
SAS System
is an integrated software system that gives you complete
control over data management, analysis and presentation.
The software is composed of more than 100 flexible programs
that can be used "as is" or customized for particular
needs. These built-in programs are grouped into logical,
modular components for data entry, retrieval and
management; statistical and mathematical analysis; and
report writing and graphics. This package bundles five SAS
system components: Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS/IML, SAS/GRAPH
and SAS/FSP.
If you purchase one of these discounted packages, the ECN will
load the software on your Sun. Please note that with the wide
range of applications on the market today, ECN personnel
cannot be experts on all applications. Thus the ECN can offer
only very limited assistance in using the applications listed
above.
