ORACLE Version 6.0.27 On A Sun File Server

Stan Harlow

ORACLE is a commercially available relational database management system designed to run on a large number of computers and operating systems. It is a program based on the English-like data language SQL (pronounced "sequel"). Through SQL commands, Oracle is used to enter, store and retrieve large amounts of information.

The Agricultural Communication Department (ACS) at Purdue has been using Oracle version 5.1.22 on a Sun 3 diskless workstation for the past two years and has recently purchased Oracle version 6.0.27 to run on Pasture, a Sun 4/390 file server in the Agricultural Engineering Department.

Oracle sells their product on a per CPU basis and charges an annual software maintenance fee per product. For more information about Oracle on a Sun workstation contact Stan Harlow (login: harlow).
