[previous article] [next article]The Electrical Engineering School student modems have been upgraded to US Robotics 2400 baud rack modems. These modems are capable of operating at 2400, 1200, or 300 baud. EE students should dial in on 49-45012, where 15 modems are available that give priority to EE accounts. Five other modems provide equal priority to all ECN users and are available by dialing the number 49-46106. If you dial a group of modems which are all in use, your call will automatically transfer to a modem in the other group if available. You may look at the Annex Terminal Server Port Prompt to determine which group you are currently connected to:
Phone # Modems Port Numbers Primary Users
-------------------------------------------------------
49-45012 15 Anxe3 ports 13 - 27 EE accounts
49-46106 5 Anxe3 ports 28 - 32 ECN account
When your modem connects, send 4 or 5 carriage returns to allow the Annex Terminal Server to autobaud (adjust to your modem speed). At the Annex prompt type "rlogin hostname" , where hostname is the name of the machine you wish to connect to. If that host is available, you will be prompted for your login name and password.
As the 15 modems at 49-45012 fill up, non-EE accounts will not be allowed to log in. To keep modems available for active users and reset lines that may have a problem, any modem line that is inactive (logged in but idle) for 15 minutes will be logged off. When you log out from the computer you are currently connected with, you will go back to the Annex prompt where you can rlogin to other machines or issue a "hangup" command to the Annex to disconnect.
Any problems with modems should be reported via the trouble command. When possible, include in your trouble report
