The Imagen printer in MSEE 189, msi, is being upgraded to handle PostScript. This change will allow the printer to handle output directly from major graphics and desktop publishing software and also provide faster throughput.
The upgrade will take place following the end of the Spring semester. As a part of the change, both msi and ei3 (in EE 66) will be converted to use the LWAH accounting system. Users who currently have pages available on msi/ei3 will have all their pages put on msi; they will need to move the pages themselves in order to use ei3.
There is a new printer interface to the physical msi printer in MSEE 189. This printer will be named msi3, and it will handle the PostScript code. The msi interface will handle imPress as has in the past. Users sending troff output to msi3 will need to use the -Tpsc option to troff, rather than the -Ti300 they used for msi.
Users submitting imPress jobs should send them to either msi or ei3. Users submitting PostScript jobs should send them to msi3.
Watch the purdue.ecn.announce newsgroup and the motd for the exact date on which the change will take place.
