PC-NFS 5.0 Network Upgrade Procedure

NO NAME NEWSLETTER-- June 1993

Phil Moyer

The newest version of PC-NFS, Version 5.0, is available. This is the procedure for upgrading an existing installation of PC-NFS to the latest release. Contact me if you have any problems. My login is prm.

  1. Make sure the PC you are using has PC-NFS installed. It is usually installed in /NFS.
  2. Certain files must be removed before upgrading to version 5.0 to prevent possible conflicts with the new software. Before continuing with the upgrade, remove the following files from the PC-NFS installation directory:
  3. To start type, "nfsconf" .
  4. Select Define Drive from the Resources pulldown menu.
  5. Set "Server" to "ups".
  6. Set "Path" to /home/ups5/pc.
  7. Select the default for sharing, which is ns. Enter for the "change definitions?" question.
  8. Type "y" when it asks you if it should mount the resource.
  9. Select an available drive to mount the directory; E: is probably a good choice.
  10. Answer "no" to the "add resource to startup file" question.
  11. Quit from nfsconf (menu or hot button).
  12. Type "cd e:\sys\pcnfs50" .
  13. Type "more < README.TXT" to read the release notes.
  14. Type "install" if you are installing the DOS version. If you are installing under windows, type "winstall" .
  15. Follow the instructions in the installation screens.
