X11R5 is a windowing system created at MIT and made available to educational institutions. An ECN application has been written by Sam Kimery to automatically create X11R5 configuration files (files required by X to function) and provide the "X Session Manager" menu options.
A hands-on short course is being offered June 15th or 16th to illustrates the use of several features of the X Session Manager applications. Covered features are:
Class space is limited and attendees must sign-up in advance. For more information type "help ecnnews" and select "X.Windows" .
To use, type " xstart " at your UNIX prompt. When the windowing systems appears, the X Session Manager is a wide, narrow window located near the upper left corner of the screen. To exit, pull down the Session menu and choose Quit. This terminates X11; logout is necessary to close your account.
NOTE: If you wish to use X11R5 without using the ECN X Session Manager, please read the manual pages for instructions. Type "man x11" .
