Accessing The Internet

NO NAME NEWSLETTER-- April 1994

Starr Williams

Whether you have been using computers for years, have just begun using them, or have never used a computer, the Internet should be something that everyone familiarizes himself with.

The Internet will be the principal means of communication by the 21st century. This advancing technology is letting people access information from anywhere in the world as they communicate with other computers across the country.

A new book, Navigating the Internet by Mark Gibbs and Richard Smith, gives a very helpful guide for those interested in learning how to master the Internet and use its resources to their advantage. This book discusses several of the packages available on the Internet such as ARCHIE, GOPHER, WAIS, and WWW.

A copy of Navigating the Internet is on reserve in the Siegesmund Library in Potter Engineering Center. Another book, The Whole Internet by Ed Krol, is also available to be checked out to anyone interested in discovering what the Internet has to offer.
