- Solaris supports up to 20-way symmetric multiprocessing.
- Solaris supports user-level multithreaded applications.
- The new version of the language compilers generate code that runs
10-15% faster than the previous version.
- The new version of the SPARCworks tools supports runtime error
checking.
- The new version of the C++ compiler is a native-code complier,
not a preprocessor. This results in a 300% improvement in
compilation time.
- The new version of the C++ compiler includes the new features
added to the language in the ANSI draft standard.
- The new C++ compiler includes the Tools.h++ class library.
- The new FORTRAN compiler supports ANSI FORTRAN77 and VAX/VMS
FORTRAN 4.0 extensions, and also some supercomputers like the
POINTER type.
- The new FORTRAN compiler automatically parallelizes code for use
on multiprocessor systems.
- ANSI C and POSIX make C programs more portable.
