News Server Changes

In August, the ECN began availing itself of the new campus wide news server provided by Purdue University Computing Center, news.cc.purdue.edu. Before this time the newsreaders (rn, xrn, nn, etc.) on ECN hosts were configured to retrieve news from the ECN news server, noose.ecn.purdue.edu.

The main affects of this change were:

• Article numbers have changed
• You may have noticed some new groups which weren't carried on the ECN news server
• You may have noticed some old bogus groups in your .newsrc that were inactive but hadn't been removed from the ECN news server.
