Using Open Windows

To control the volume for sound files, click and hold the right mouse button while in the workspace area (the desktop outside of any open windows). A workspace menu will appear for as long as you continue to hold down the mouse button. From the menu, highlight the Programs option, which will pull down another menu to the side. Select the Audio tool... option.

From the pop-up menu which appears, select the Volume button located towards the top right corner.

A pull-down menu will appear, from which you should select Play.

A Play window appears with a sliding volume control which can be controlled by the mouse.

On the SPARCstation LX, 5, 10, and 20, there will be an additional control for left-right balance. These workstations are equipped with 16-bit stereo sound; all other SPARCstations have 8-bit mono. .sp

Using X Windows

To control the volume at which sound files are played, run the program gaintool which resides in the directory /usr/demo/SOUND. When you run gaintool, a pop-up window will appear which includes a sliding volume control which can be controlled by the mouse. .sp

VOLUME LEVELS ON THE HP WORKSTATIONS

The HP workstations are configured to display a pop-up menu whenever a sound file is selected. The window contains a sliding volume control which can be controlled by the mouse, as well as Pause and Stop buttons to affect the playing of the sound file. After thirty seconds without use, the window will disappear.
