[previous article] [next article]A new, unified look is coming to the main pages of the Engineering Web. Over the summer I contacted Sue Ferringer of the Engineering Production Office about developing a custom look for Engineering's Web. She applied her graphic art skills to designing a series of homepages; creating continuity with similar style elements while avoiding duplication. In mid-August this overall look was approved by Dean Schwartz and the Engineering department heads.
Two objectives were the cornerstone of the new design series.
To get a preview of what is to come, go to the Engineering homepage and click on CEE (Continuing Engineering Education) then ECE (Electrical & Computer Engineering) then IE (Industrial Engineering) and then IDE (Interdisciplinary Engineering). While each page is different, the similarity between them immediately identifies them as being part of an exclusive group.
The other academic disciplines will bring their new homepages online as they get their current web material reorganized to fit the new format. Be patient! Reorganizing a web site is not a quick operation. Jonathan Neuenschwander from Mechanical Engineering, for example, maintains a vast collection of web information (that we all enjoy using) and to reorganize the information takes time.
Another talented graphical artist from EPO is Rod Heckaman.
He designed both the graphical banner for the

Rumor has it that Jim McCammack, assistant director for graphic design from the Office of Publications has been working with a task force from that office to create a new look for the main Purdue homepage. Keep checking for the appearance of this new page; activation is hoped for within the next few weeks.
