Tom Statnick Joins The ECN

NO NAME NEWSLETTER -- January 1996

Thomas Statnick joined the ECN as Manager of the User Services group on December 14, 1995. Previously Tom was Director of Purdue's Physics Computer Network (PCN).

Thomas started working as an undergraduate assistant for the Physics Computer Network in October of 1989. Upon receiving his B.S. in Physics in 1992, he accepted a position as Director of PCN. Since then, he has worked for the physics department as well as providing consulting services to computer companies such as Silicon Graphics, Digital Equipment Corporation, Kubota Pacific Computer, and Picker International's MRI division. Thomas specializes in UNIX operating system internals, with an emphasis on device driver implementation. He also has a strong background in UNIX systems administration, server/workstation hardware, and networking from his work with the physics department.

Tom's main goal will be to increase the level of service provided to the Schools of Engineering's faculty, staff, and students by the central ECN staff based on customer requirements. He maintains an "open door" policy, and welcomes any comments or suggestions on ECN services either in person (office MSEE-104G), or via e-mail trs@ecn.purdue.edu.

When not in front of a computer, you can generally find him in his home recording studio where he records and produces electronic and acoustic music for musicians and DJs. In the summer, he enjoys hiking and camping with his dog, Murphy, any place there is a high density of trees and a low density of humans.
