The purpose of this sites is to present Emerging Construction Technologies that could produce a "High Impact" in the construction industry. The technologies are divided into five areas: Civil, Mechanical, Internet-based, Electrical, and Other. Each technology is presented in fact sheets describing: The Need, The Technology, The Benefits, Status, Barriers, Points of Contact, and References.

Augmented Reality Computer-aided Drawing (AR CAD)

Design visualization plays a critical role in achieving an accurate, shared understanding of the design. Conventional 3D visualization applications, which were designed to help designers and engineers to understand easily a complex structure, have limitations in conveying an understanding of complex structures since their models are presented with certain constraints on usersĄŻ interactions with the design model. Augmented Reality Computer-Aided Drawing (AR CAD) helps users to comprehend a space more effectively by letting users visualize and interfact with designs in a more intuitive way. At Purdue University, the prototype AR CAD system is being developed for exploring the benefits of supporting design, and ultimately construction, with various modes of Mixed Reality, going beyond the desktop-monitor-bound interface.

New Feature: New Technology Survey
We have recently added a new section "Survey" to the website.  The goal of the technology survey is to collect information from site visitors and subscribers regarding new construction technologies.  These surveys are administered by the Construction Engineering and Management Department at Purdue University, and their results are used for non-profit research that is currently being conducted at the university.  Please click here to be connected to the survey homepage, or choose 'Survey' under the section 'Site Features' in the left coulmn. New Feature: Site Statistics
We added a new feature 'Statistics' that enables you to access the report including the statistics information on Emerging Construction Technologies Web site. At this moment, the annual report of 2001 and the monthly report of January and February 2002 are available. Contents of the reports cover the number of pages requested, the number of hosts that visitors used, and the number of subscribers, etc. Monthly reports are to be updated on the second day of every month.

New Technology Area: Safety Technologies
We added a new technology area on Emerging Construction Technologies web site.  We called it 'Safety Technologies'. This new area is intended to accommodate emerging Safety technologies that are specifically designed for construction industry and other industry that can be used by construction people.
